The general research goals of the Rowanduz Archaeological Project are fourfold:

(1) To develop an archaeological chronology of the Rowanduz region with particular emphasis on the Late Bronze and early Iron Ages.

(2) To study the urban forms and evolution of Gird-e Dasht and Qalaat Mudjesir;

(3) To investigate the agropastoral economy of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the region;

(4) To understand the interaction between the Rowanduz region and Assyria to the west and the southern Lake Urmia Basin to the east. Michael Danti is currently producing the Excavation Reports series of the University of Pennsylvania Museum's expedition to Hasanlu Tepe (1956–1977).
